KEY POINTS, Links & Actions
Here are some key points that I would advise you to concentrate on
- If you wanted to know how to become a tactical athlete, then you look no further than Coach Mike Chadwick! He is a former Paratrooper, a Special Forces Support Group Operator, a Royal Army Physical Training Corps Instructor and he has most recently left the Military and now a full time coach and entrepreneur. He knows how to transform you!
- Your body is a linked system and needs to maintain, strengthened and evolved across the whole body and not just the disco muscles!
- Everyone has things they want in life, but few will ever actual put in the work to achieve it.
- Stop thinking that the free program in a fitness magazine will work for you … it will only work for a small majority, and pictures of those will be used to sell it to the others!
“There’s a million things that could have went wrong a million things that have happened prior to that. But if we get every bit right? and when you execute the the movement on green and you leave the aircraft at the right time. That’s when you’re going to start your day. You know that’s that’s me on my way to work but the red on is the most important. And it’s being prepared for absolutely everything that red light can be anything. It’s not just military-centric leaving the aircraft that red light could be the whistle being blown at the start of a rugby match or when the lift goes out of order and you got to climb 5 flights of stairs in work. That’s your red light to go I’ve prepared for this lifts out of order. Green light up the stairs ago flying up I’m ready for the meeting I can still deliver because I’m physically prepared for anything and any in all situations. That’s what I mean by the red on.”
- Mike joined the Army to support his young sister, while his mum was sick. He stepped up to support his family when they needed it the most, sacrificing his goals to support his family, a truly impressive thing to do.
Think of yourself as an athlete, not as someone working out, you are an athlete, adopt the mindset of a top class performer right now! As Mike says “I never call anyone I work with a client … I don’t have any clients, I have athletes, and that doesn’t matter whether you are a sporting athlete, a sponsored athlete, or whether you’ve never trained in your life, if you work with me from this day forward, you are an athlete, so now act accordingly! That kickstarts something, it changes the mindset. It just changes the philosophy on coaching and what it does, it drives results … you crack on, you do what you need to do.“
- “I utilize something known as the minimal effective dose. We do the absolute bare minimum to get the biggest bang for our book now people may be thinking well, that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard doing less can surely not provide you more but that’s exactly what I do with some of the most elite athletes in the world. So it’s probably going to help someone who’s never trained before doing the barement. So when you do this is what this is the difference between availability and sustainability, availability is the first thing we need to provide for for an athlete and that means a foundation of strength a really strong core. Glutes are firing, legs are nice and strong. So we’re available for every single session because if you come to me for a session and I justrash you to an inch of your life. You’re probably never going to come back and you most definitely won’t be on the next session because you’re probably still going to have doms that would put a platoon of marines on the sick. So you. Be really and it’d be really hard for us to keep a sustainable program so sustainability comes through why first and foremost but also fruit understanding people’s battlefields and what makes them tick … It’s all about understanding you why and that creates sustainability and planment around your life. The minimal effect is one of the most powerful tools doing the bare minimum“
- You will have shitty days, miss lifts etc etc. However, follow the instructions of your coach, ask for advice, trust their revisions to help you make changes to better suit your needs, food, hydration, recovery etc, and go again. The rule of thirds work, you will have bad days, they are part of training but won’t always last! As Mike says: “… it’s not a linear trajectory. You will have shit days. You’re gonna have great days. You’re gonna have days where I prescribe something it doesn’t even touch the sides and what most people do in that moment is go while I’m going to push the pace and I’m like I’m trying to hold people that saying no, there’s a bigger picture at play here if I’ve asked you to do 8 minute miles do 8 minute miles I know you feel like 7 even thirty we ain’t doing that today. We’re doing 8 minute miles because I understand your body I understand what makes you tick and we’re doing 8 minute miles because I know you can do that over 6 seven miles whatever it looks like because tomorrow some big’s coming. So if you could do 7 minute miles today because you feel great. Sustainability again. Are you going to be available tomorrow for what I really want from you so it’s understanding the bigger picture you understand your athlete and we both agree on the pathway and we stick to it.”
- Don’t over think life! Mike was told that he could earn an extra £200 a payday, by joining the Paras and thats what he did. He never checked the difference, and just assumed that it was the normal difficulty etc. What could you accomplish if you just went with it and didn’t overthink it or blew it up in your mind?
- Cut the BS! You can start a diet today, you don’t need to wait till Monday to start. You can start with a free program in the gym, you don’t need to save up for a trainer … starting today is always better than waiting (nearly always), making smaller changes will help you change your life, as someone knew will actually do the little changes rather than try the harder things, do it once and then skip it as its not designed for them.
- “1 is that perpetual growth I mentioned earlier when we test the I idea behind it is that I’m going to retest you at a later date. You are going to compete with the old you and if we’ve both done our job correctly, my prescription was right and your effort matched it. You’re gonna be a new person so you’re gonna go and fucking destroy that old you that’s powerful. That you now being an athlete and that brings power that goes back again to and results spark confidence all of a sudden you starting to think oh I am getting better. Okay I like the feeling of this. Now what? (You will say) let’s go again!“
- “… words are worthless without execution. If you can’t execute the movement because you’re physically not prepared then words mean nothing, so it doesn’t matter. Your mindset will get you through a lot, it will but you have to have that physical base, that foundation, in order to action“
- “Well, the secret athlete code of conduct is something I I require all athletes to abide by first and foremost that’s really really poor for marketing. It’s terrible for marketing. But it’s so powerful for winning because you do it for you. You loses for you. You win for you. Everything’s for you“
- You need a reason ‘Why?’ in your life – you need to have a mission, a focus, something that will drive you on and keep you focusedon your goals in life as Mike says: “… finding your why and then acting upon it are two very very different things. A lot of people want shit. Not a lot of people want to go out and get it though and that’s the difference between people and predominantly that comes back down to your why if your why isn’t strong and if you like the idea or something that’s not as strong as I have to perform here or my sister doesn’t eat who’s winning in that in that you know me I’ll win every single day of the week in that because my why is much stronger.”
- You might not be jumping out of a plane, but you can utilize Mike’s philosophy for success in your own transformation! “You’ve got to ensure that at all costs at all costs. We train as best as we possibly can to ensure that we’re ready for absolutely anything that’s thrown upon us and that’s really really important to me said that could be crossed over to everyone in everyday life just being ready for absolute anything and. That’s where the mantra Redon comes from as as you see is is the is the prefix for every organization I’ve got whether it’s the red on revolution the red on challenge the red on socks. Everything is prefaced by red on.”
“… how you do anything is how you do everything and what I think so I remember someone in the military used to always say your your standards are what you walk By. So if you walk by something that’s below standard and you accept that then that’s your standard and. And that has always sat with me always always always fed into me I don’t know who said it I don’t know where it came from but I always sat with me and so yeah I I Still agree with that and and I think that’s very very true in in every walk of life.“
- “Train in silence, we win in silence, we do it as a team but we do it in the shadows, we go and shock people. We turn up and we win absolutely everything … We just keep winning and moving on to the next and winning that and that’s really that sounds really great and it’s really powerful. But it gets really difficult and drain but that difficulty in training is where we grow so when we end up competing on whatever that aim looks like later. You’ve already grown so much because you’re in your own head. You know how hard is to do the right thing when no one’s watching to get that extra rep that I’ve supplied for you when no one’s going to watch it. No one’s Goingnna clap you on Instagram. No one gives a shit. No one cares about it. So do it anyway, let’s just do it in silence and you can go on up low. You do whatever you want to do but ah my philosophy on it is let’s just train in silence. Let’s just turn up and shock people. How good would that be because no one believes in you but I believe in you. And if you believe in yourself then we’re going to get on great together. But we have to do this together. We have to do this in silent and then let’s just turn up and destroy everyone and let everyone else behind us, ask all the questions when they’re looking at the sole of your boots.”
