SOME THINGS TO REFLECT ON
In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:
- Training a martial art can help you learn about yourself and help you deal with difficult times in their life and how to deal with the anxiety and stress. Training a martial art can help you be able to view life in different ways and to be able to understand life in a deeper way as well as better confidence and self-esteem and be a badass who can defend himself … a win-win situation!
- Check in with a friend, especially someone you haven’t spoken to in a while or someone who has had a rough time recently. Make sure they know they are not alone.
- BJJ is necessary for fighting, it is one of the most important skills to know, especially if weapons are involved too. Unfortunately we are nearly all going to encounter some level of violence in our lives. By training a martial arts, you are able to keep level headed, control the situation, defend yourself etc.
- Situational awareness is a good skill to develop but ‘crazy things happen’, you need to be able to defend yourself if things happen, you do not always get a chance to remove yourself from the situation.
- If you are struggling to keep motivated in class, find a new way to love the technique again, learn to look for little changes and improvements, change the focus
- Don’t do something just because your hero is doing it, do it because you can transform and evolve from doing it. Get the inspiration from your hero but do the action because it will benefit you.
- It is OK to use other people as a bench mark for pushing yourself but you need to realise more likes or being a faster learner etc does not make them better than youl. We all learn at different rates, you are on your own journey, you only fail if you give up. Keep going and you will hit those goals you seek.
- Change your mentality, remove the negative way of seeing things. Instead of ‘I have to’ or ‘I need to’, instead think ‘I get to’ or ‘I have the chance to’ instead. Stop doing shit you hate, find out what you love and figure out a way to do it.
- ‘Fall in love with the process rather than the result’ and you motivation will remain a lot longer
