KEY POINTS TO REFLECT ON & LINKS MENTIONED
In this interview, a lot of jewels of self-improvement are discussed. Some of these and their associated thoughts include:
- Anybody can learn a skill, you just need to find your effective style of learning.
- Nothing is impossible, you just need to find a way. The internet has opened up your access to some amazing people, who have taught themselves to do things without formal training, no money etc etc. There is no excuse for not chasing your dreams.
- Just because you couldn’t do something before, doesn’t mean you can’t do it. You just need the right attitude and the right tools.
- Benny Lewis – Fluent in Three Months
- Learning can be fun, learning can be exciting, even if you hated school.
- There is a skill to learning and developing skills.
- You need to have true desire to be successful in learning skills. Learn the skills you truly want to learn, not what your job or someone else suggests you learn.
- Think about the ways you are trying to learn a skill. Consider the activity you are doing to learn the skill, look at the environment you are learning the skills in. You need to dial into the true nature of the skill you are trying to learn and make sure the approach effective to allow you to be successful.
- Understanding what is needed to learn a skill is not always obvious but it is vital to your ability to learn it. It is worth the effort at the start to truly analyse the skill and focus your methods on what is needed to work.
- Break the skill down into skills, concepts and procedures to deep dive into the skill. List things into the three columns, look for road blocks to learning, what is involved in the skill and what methods would allow you to fix the roadblocks and learn efficiently.
- It’s beneficial to have a fixed timescale for each project.
- How can you make the things you need to do and the things you want to do coincide more, so you are motivated to learn and practice, even if it is something for work etc and not a personal goal.
- How can you make this goal or challenge compelling, so motivation is not in question.
- Figure out what you want to do, and be truly specific, and then you can reverse engineer what it will take to get there. Then figure out how to achieve the tings you need and start now!
- Read it and try to recall – don’t just try to read things over and over again.
- Technology and the understanding of how best to learn depending on your psychology has exploded over the last few decades. Look up how you can learn best, use technology and the tools available to get feedback, monitor and analyse your progress and get the feedback to keep moving on and developing.
- Learning new skills and challenging yourself should be a life long challenge and something that you should cultivate in yourself and your kids.
- Things will never be perfect, you will never have the perfect setup, the perfect environment or perfect conditions, but you can do something, regardless of the situation you are in. You can change and increase etc as you progress, but start now and go forward – you will be surprised where it can take you.

About the Author
I’m a podcaster who interviews great examples of people to discuss and highlight the methods, hacks, tips and procedures you can use in your own life to help you develop and better your life. I would definitely not consider myself an expert, so to improve, I ask them and action it in my own life! My personal journey has been marked by awkwardness and awesomeness, OCD and ‘OMG’. I have suffered with depression, shyness, unhappiness and lack of focus and motivation so I know what’s it like to feel lost and hopeless. Back then, I wished I had a podcast to listen to and find actual fixes and concrete action steps and not just unobtainable suggestions and promotion of their products but couldn’t find it … so I made my own!-
